for the gentleman: shaving set from the english shaving company, whiskey and tabac aftershave from mr. lee's general store & haberdashery, hunter tie from fieldguided, anatomy of love print from rifle paper co.

things i like: spring 2010 edition

i'm finding that i am still too busy for regular blogging but i just thought i would share a little list of things that i am loving at the moment. i really love making lists...

1. tofino
about twice a year during the beginning of fall and spring i find myself wanting to run away to a cabin in the woods. right now i'm dreaming about tofino, there is something so magical about that place. photo from the lovely 705.

2. cowichans
i've been wanting a cowichan sweater for a while but i think that given the recent controversy, now is a better time than ever to show support for our traditional crafts. this vest from granted is an updated yet still locally handmade version.

3. liberty prints
one of my resolutions for 2010 is to make more things and karen at make something is my muse. i especially love her liberty print dresses she makes from japanese dress pattern books. i could wear this outfit everyday, it's perfect.

4. photography
i've been really enjoying karen and anabela's 365 project and they have inspired me to take pictures everyday, another resolution. sabino's blog is also really beautiful, i can't believe how many talented people are out there armed with cameras.

5. granny chic
i'm starting to seem like an old lady more and more with my doilies, crochet blankets and vintage china. this phrase more than anything seems to describe my style these days and there is even a flickr pool dedicated to it! swoon.

that's all for now. happy weekend!

hello 2010!

well, i've been a bit bad at getting back on the blogging wagon this year. i think it's been the combination of some winter blues and taking on too many projects. but as we get further into the month, i'm regaining my balance and am feeling excited about all these projects - including two shows i'm curating next month, yay! but i'm not really sure what i want to do with this blog for the coming year. i started it mainly to reblog and keep track of all the things i was finding around the net which i've found is really a better format for tumblr. i think i'd like to have a more personal blog to post more of my own photos and projects but i'm not sure i'll have the time for much of that. i also have a couple more guides that i didn't manage to post before i left for copenhagen so i'll try to get those up. so stay tuned for some sporadic posting and have a lovely 2010. {photo of our homemade christmas decorations}

gift guide part 3: for the homebody

what's better than being all wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of tea and a good book during the holidays? that's definitely one of my favourite things to do when it's cold outside. so this guide is dedicated to all things cozy for those like me who don't mind staying in sometimes.

{lobster & swan garland - a pretty decoration that could stay up all year, lena corwin pillow - i've been lusting after this guy for a while, hello handmade calendar tea towel - perfect for wrapping up with homemade treats, and an area blanket - a bit pricey but these baby alpaca throws look so cozy.}

gift guide part 2: for the foodie

i don't quite know what i was thinking when i said i'd do a guide for each day. obviously this one is a bit late. but better late than never! when it comes to food, i much prefer something sweet so this guide is a little bit more baking oriented than for the cooks. and who doesn't love treats at christmas time?

{mast brothers chocolate - i'm dying to try these, matryoshka measuring cups - by far the cutest measuring cups i've seen, babycakes cookbook - vegan, gluten and sugar free dessert recipes, and a vintage whimsy kit - for packaging up all your handmade goodies. }

p.s. i also quite liked esb's anti-gift guide that she posted today.

gift guide part 1: for the fashionista

i couldn't resist posting a little series of gift guides before i leave. i've been trying to make my christmas shopping lists in between writing papers, so i thought i'd share. i'll be posting a few thing of the things that found their way onto my lists, divided up into interests/personality types for each day. and yes, maybe i do want all of it myself too...

{for me, for you necklace - a grown up version of friendship bracelets, faux fur pillbox hat - click on the link for a better photo, sandra's wrist worms - perfect for biking or shopping in the cold, and heart tights - so cute for holiday parties}.

fjall + happy holidays

i'm now officially done school for the year but still have a few papers to write {including my honours thesis - yikes!} and then will be off to copenhagen for christmas. so i'll be taking a bit of a break here for the rest of the month. i'll still be posting randomly on my tumblr, otherwise i'll be back in the new year. have a lovely holiday! {photos of fjall via remodelista}
